Our Story

Dr. Kevin Leslie and colleagues created the 6 Pattern poster based on content in the award winning medical textbook on pulmonary pathology, "Practical Pulmonary Pathology: A Diagnostic Approach".  The poster is a visual guide to the basic patterns of lung disease as seen through the light microscope.

Dr. Maxwell Smith and Dr. Leslie have have created universal access to The Poster through the 6patterns.org website. The goal of this site is to provide the user with an online diagnostic guide not only to recognize the basic patterns of injury, but also to delve deeper into the subpatterns. This site is not intended to replicate a text book, but rather to add a dynamic arrow to the surgical pathologist quiver when confronted with the dreaded surgical lung biopsy for interstitial lung disease.

Finally, the site is rounded out with links to video pathology educational vignettes where Kevin and Max use the poster and years of experience to share valuable pearls.
